About the 'Step for' concept

Step for Sudan The 'Step for' concept was developed in Sweden in 2006. One of IAS development projects in Southern Sudan, the 'Sustainable Recovery and Community Empowerment Project' was 90% funded by the Swedish Mission Council. The remaining 10% had to be covered by IAS in Sweden, which meant that IAS had to find ways of fundraising.

Thomas Sundin, a business man working for Sunmedia in Sweden, came up with the logo 'Step for Sudan' and introduced some ideas of collecting funds to the Community Empowerment Project. One of the fundraising projects that he carried out was to produce socks with the 'Step for Sudan' logo on them, and with a label that described the development project that International Aid Services (IAS) was implementing. Further, the label informed the buyer that at least 25% of the surplus would be forwarded as a contribution to the project.

With the 'Step for Sudan' concept in place, IAS in Sweden further developed the idea and decided to have the 'Step for' as a common brand for its 'development' type of projects. These projects are also in need of being co-financed (ranging from 10-20%). By using the 'Step for' concept more often in IAS Sweden's development and co-financed projects, IAS hope to be able to create a clearer communicative message towards the public in its fundraising campaigns.
