August 30, 2010 - Hostage freed in Sudan - After 105 days in captivity, Samaritan’s Purse relief worker Flavia Wagner was released Monday. (Source: Samaritan's Purse)
After 105 days in captivity, Samaritan’s Purse relief worker Flavia Wagner was released Monday by kidnappers in the Darfur region of Sudan.
Samaritan’s Purse staff have seen her and report that she is well. She said she is looking forward to being reunited with her family in the United States.
“We thank God that Flavia is safe and free,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “We appreciate the help of the government of Sudan and the United States government.
“People around the world have been praying for her safety and her release. Today, those prayers have been answered.”
Wagner, 35, was among three Samaritan’s Purse workers kidnapped May 18 when their two-vehicle convoy was stopped by a group of armed men 25 miles southwest of Nyala, the provincial capital of South Darfur. The other two workers—both Sudanese men—were released one week later.

100 DAYS OF CAPTIVITY - Statement by the Northern Sudan INGO Forum Steering Committee
Today marks the 100th day of captivity for the Samaritan’s Purse humanitarian worker kidnapped in Darfur. We remain seriously concerned for her safety, and for the safety of other humanitarian workers in the Darfur region. In recent months, incidences of abduction, violence and theft have undermined the ability of humanitarian agencies to provide services to the people of Darfur.
We ask the Government of Sudan to continue to work hard for her release and to provide a safe environment for humanitarian workers and for all civilians in Darfur; an environment in which Sudanese and international humanitarian workers can work alongside their host, the people of Darfur, to meet needs, provide services and strengthen opportunities for the future without fear for their own safety and security.
100 days of captivity is 100 days too many
The Northern Sudan INGO Forum Steering Committee will host a Fatur today, 25 August 2010, where selected invitees will be asked to join us as we break the fast together and unite behind a prayer for safety and protection of our colleague and her immediate release.
